Dear Aunt Anita,
You asked for a comment on the speech. I watched it and thought a quote
would be most appropriate, it is from one of our
founding fathers and our second
President -John Adams (in
the
Treaty of Tripoli 1797) - under the direction of our
First President George Washington.
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded
on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against
the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen (Muslim men)..."
-
President John Adams
- Article. 11. Treaty of Tripoli
Unanimously Ratified by the United
States Congress in 1797.
In Europe, they had state churches, they also had bloody
religious wars over small points of doctrine. If we were ever to
establish a state church in America, I fear our fate would be the same - bloody
civil war between Catholics, Baptist,
Pentecostals and every
other denomination which thought that God was on their side. Christians have a
bad history of killing other Christians whenever they have the power. The
founders were wise in writing the
establishment clause into the constitution.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
Supreme Court Justice
Hugo Black
wrote,
The "establishment of religion" clause of the
First Amendment means
at least this: Neither a state nor the
federal
government can set up a church.
Neither can pass laws which aid one religion, aid all religions, or prefer
one religion over another. Neither can force nor influence a person to go to
or to remain away from church against his will or force him to profess a
belief or disbelief in any religion. No person can be punished for
entertaining or professing religious beliefs or dis-beliefs, for church
attendance or non-attendance. No
tax
in any amount, large or small, can be levied to support any religious
activities or institutions, whatever they may be called, or whatever form
they may adopt to teach or practice religion. Neither a state nor the
Federal Government can, openly or secretly, participate in the affairs of
any religious organizations or groups and vice versa. In the words of
Jefferson, the clause against
establishment of religion by law was intended to erect "a wall of separation
between church and State."
May God continue to save us from Theocracy!
Peace,
Your Verbose Nephew,
Athony W. P
Thanks Tony,
I welcome opposing views. In the current
political atmosphere your thoughts and conclusions are no doubt commendable. I
do think that the comments of a few men cannot negate the overwhelming
profession of the vast majority of the founding fathers. While I understand
that these honored men were safeguarding against the persecution they fled in
Europe I also know that they were almost all professing Christians.
God and his kingdom are not set up as a
democracy or a socialistic society but as a Kingdom with one King who makes no
apology for his supremacy. He paid with his blood to be called
King of Kings and
Lord of Lords and when He said;
"I am the way the truth and the life: no man
cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6 KJV
He offered no alternative to eternal life. As
a minister I am not ashamed of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. Someone
recently said to me, "You are against Homosexuals!" I answered, "nothing could
be further from the truth. I am up with the people! I love homosexuals!
I also love adulterers and liars and thieves and murderers. I don't love all
of the things they do":
All have sinned and come short of the glory
of God Romans 3:23 KJV
But I dearly love the people because our
savior Jesus loves them. We cannot change the gospel because it has become
unpopular. Jesus himself would tell us that popularity turns on a dime. On his
trip into
Jerusalem the people cried out, "Hosanna to the King of Kings!" Just a
few days later they were crying, "Crucify Him!"
I do believe this country was founded on the
truth of God and His Son
Jesus who is the Word incarnate. Regardless of the arguments about the
founding fathers being deist, as Rabbi Smith said to his daughter Shirley,
"Men make plans and God Laughs!" It is God who gives men the free right to
choose every day. God will not take away our free will even if it means we
march into hell itself! But he will stand at the door and tell all of man
kind:
"Don't go to hell, I have made a way for you
to escape!"
Other quotes by
Thomas Jefferson:
"Religion, as well as reason, confirms the
soundness of those principles on which our government has been founded and its
rights asserted." --Thomas Jefferson to P. H. Wendover, 1815. ME 14:283
"The rights [to religious freedom] are of the
natural rights of mankind, and... if any act shall be... passed to repeal [an
act granting those rights] or to
narrow its operation, such act will be an infringement of natural
right." --Thomas Jefferson: Statute for Religious Freedom, 1779. (*) ME 2:303,
Papers 2:546
"Whatsoever is lawful in the Commonwealth or
permitted to the subject in the ordinary way cannot be forbidden to him for
religious uses; and whatsoever is prejudicial to the Commonwealth in their
ordinary uses and, therefore, prohibited by the laws, ought not to be
permitted to churches in their sacred rites.
For instance, it is unlawful in the
ordinary course of things or in a private house to murder a child; it should
not be permitted any sect then to sacrifice children.
(Could this include modern day abortion?)
It is ordinarily lawful (or temporarily
lawful) to kill calves or lambs; they may, therefore, be religiously
sacrificed. But if the good of the State required a temporary suspension of
killing lambs, as during a siege, sacrifices of them may then be rightfully
suspended also. This is the true extent of toleration." --Thomas Jefferson:
Notes on Religion, 1776. Papers 1:547
In conclusion the overwhelming religion of
the majority of the founding fathers was Christian. The first people who are
credited for settling here (The Pilgrims) were devout Christians. The evidence
of our Christianity is that we have been tolerant of all other religions as
the Lord Himself has obviously been.
That however does not negate in anyway the
fact that Jesus openly declared Himself to be, "the only way to God." He went
on to say anyone who tried to come up any other way was the same as a thief
and a liar.
John 10:1
Back to my previous point God will protect
the right of free will even when it chooses to go to hell.
This nation was settled by Christians,
founded by Christians on Christian principals, NOT ON RELIGION. I find
religion in it's negative sense diametrically opposed to any true from of
Christianity. (Go to D.C. quickly and look at the many places where the
Ten Commandments and the word God is chiseled in stone before they sand
blast it off.)
So we started as Christians, we continued to
be Christians and the last time I checked the statistics, we are still a
majority of Christians...Christian Nation.
Hug, Aunt Anita
I've never bought into the ObaMagic, how's that
Hope-y Change-y thing working out now? I'll
never say he's not my president, but he wasn't my first choice.
Judy L.

have to say I agree with him, Chris B.
Yes!!!! Yes!!!! Yes!!!!! I'm Glad someone is
saying something.
Donna
wow!!!! god is needed more in America now than
ever, and into the white house. how dare the president say his country isn't a
christian one. i don't remember him asking me!!!!
MJ
As Christians we are in for the fight of our
lives... Hold fast, and stand strong. Put on the
full armor of God! Eph 6:11 This IS War! remember If you deny Jesus
before man, He will deny you before the Father!
Anita - have you heard of The
Feasts of the Lord? Pastor
Mark Biltz explains the different feasts and what they mean...awesome and so eye
opening! I loved that Kenneth
Hagin cd on healing so much, I bought a 6 cd set on Faith. I want to be
strong, not for just me, but to win my family and others to the Lord! My
Grandparents were strong Christians, when they prayed you felt God leaning in
Listen, it felt as if Heaven its self was leaning near. My grandfather was a
Wesleyan minister for 30+ years.. both grandparents were
prayer warriors as I call them. I feel the call of God to be more, to do
more. Not preach, but witness, missionary so to speak on our own country. Time
is short, the war is raging..I feel God telling me to do more. I can't explain
it, I just know for sometime I have been frustrated with church and the
lukewarmness if it. I want to be on fire! I want what I know God is calling me
to be..pray for me!
Suzanne
I would love to see this man run this country...He
knows what this country needs and also knows that it cannot succeed with out
God.
Amen to Forbes----Bring It on...

Anita,
I listened to the video and it blessed me to hear a man, could I go as far as
saying a Son of God, stand
for what he believes in during that meeting (summit). Honestly, I wept as I
watch the gentleman bring forth his argument unto the speaker. It truly moved me
into prayer! Our Heavenly Commander of Chief has strategically placed certain
individuals in all arenas! Thank you Father for placing these warriors where you
know they are best positioned for you.
